Tiger's Roar places in Georgia Press Association collegiate competition

On Feb. 16, members of the student media outlet Tiger's Roar will learn how they placed among other student outlets in the state in the annual Better Newspaper Contest, sponsored by the Georgia Collegiate Press Association annually.

At the end of January, Tiger's Roar was notified that it placed in two categories- Layout and Design and News Story- Investigative.

This is the fourth consecutive year the news outlet has placed in the Better Newspaper Contest.

In 2015, Tiger's Roar won second placed for "Most Improved Newspaper." In the judges' notes, the design and layout were listed as primary factors for winning the award.

"Focus on improving the use [of] artwork and better graphic design has paid off. The newspaper looks much better year over year."

Asia Wilkerson, who graduated in December 2017, was layout editor from 2014 to December. Amanda Wilkins worked under Wilkerson during the Fall Semester and is now in charge of the look of the paper edition.

Newcomers Angela Farley and Joy Nealey were the writers of the piece that placed for best investigative work. Their story, "Writing Center closes due to lack of funding" launched talks among administration to find a way to reopen the Writing Center. While this was ultimately unsuccessful, the story spurred the conversation.
