Olivia Carter, Graduating Senior, becomes a News Producer at WJCL 22 News

Olivia Carter , senior at Savannah State University and president of The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) SSU Chapter, is now a news producer at WJCL 22. Carter is majoring in journalism and mass communications will graduate in May 2024. Last year, Olivia was an intern in the WJCL 22 News department where she learned the ins and outs of how a news operation functioned. She has extensive experience with news content creation, social media, and media relations.

Savannah State University (SSU) hosted the 73 rd Annual Southern Regional Press Institute (SRPI) on February 29 – March, 2024, 1 to help high school and college students acquire skills in communications.     The two-day event featured more than 20 industry professionals presenting topics related to multimedia and digital communications, journalism, public relations, and strategic communications. Savannah State University Hosted 73rd annual Southern Regional Press Institute:  Two-Day Conference Features More Than 20 Communications Professionals

Savannah State University (SSU) hosted the 73 rd annual Southern Regional Press Institute (SRPI) on February 29 – March 1 to help high school and college students acquire skills in communications.     The two-day event featured more than 20 industry professionals presenting topics related to multimedia and digital communications, journalism, public relations, and strategic communications. QUOTE   This year’s theme was “Artificial Intelligence in the Media and Pop Culture” with multiple topics in the workshops concentrating on how AI has been impacting the world of journalism and communications.   QUOTE   The event’s two keynote speakers were Bud Johnson, professional content creator, freelance photographer and writer and  Paula Wambui-Pinzon , senior engineer at NetApp.   QUOTE   Founded in 1951, SRPI features keynote speakers, multiple concurrent workshops, and contests. Nationally respected journalists and media professionals instruct the workshops. From 2013 to 2024, the institute h
