CNN Partnership  with SSU JMC

Savannah State University has maintained a consistent partnership with CNN as its affiliate since 2018. CNN resources allow students to access CNN’s collection for archived footage, 100,000+ news items annually, and more. In the department of journalism and mass communications, CNN resources are being used in the classroom and in TV production activities to provide students with national/international industry - standard content. Students were able to download and use CNN content in their news stories, and they can also contribute.

The Savannah Tribune hosted a Biscuit Brunch and Sneaker Ball Soirée at the J. W. Marriott Plant Riverside Ballroom on June 28, 2025. Mr. Shawn “J. Chris” Christopher was the perfect emcee who engaged the crowd. Honorees Ms. Dawn Baker, Dr. Charles J. Elmore, Ms. Vaughnette Goode-Walker, Dr. Charles Hoskins, and Mr. Walter Moore were given unique pen sets to continue their writings about African American history. Dr. Elmore and Dr. Hoskins researched those archives incessantly, many times for their books, for their recapitulations of accurate information per Mrs. James. She also mentioned that Dr. Elmore, in his capacity as Department Chair of the Mass Communications Department at SSU, as well as the administrators at SCAD and The Savannah Morning News were a tremendous help when a fire at The Tribune in January 2006 could have preempted the paper that week, but the paper met its deadline. The 19th welcomes its third cohort of Frances Ellen Watkins Harper Fellows The 19th is excited to welcome its third cohort in the Frances Ellen Watkins Harper Fellowship , which seeks to create a meaningful pipeline for those historically excluded from U.S. newsrooms. Chanel Cain, a Howard University graduate, has been selected as an audience engagement fellow. Amethyst Holmes, also a graduate of Howard, will join the product team as a fellow. Alexis Wray, a North Carolina A&T State University graduate; Eden Turner, a Savannah State University graduate; and Howard alum Sabreen Dawud will serve as reporting fellows. JMC Alumni, Chris Corinthian, Show 'My Money Mentors' Nominated for a Southeast Regional Emmy

"My Money Mentors" is a show dedicated to making financial literacy empowering for young adults. It was nominated for a Southeast Regional Emmy in 2025. The show is hosted by financial advisor Jacqueline Schadeck CFP® and financial literacy coach Chris Corinthian. Corinthian is a graduate of the mass communications program. Host Schadeck and Corinthian guide people through various financial challenges and equip them with actionable steps to make smart money choices and break generational cycles of scarcity and financial lack. The show premiered on June 17, 2024, with two 30-minute back-to-back episodes on WABE-TV. Two more episodes aired on June 18. The show is produced by WABE Studios as well as with support from Delta Community Credit Union.
