The Mass Connection

Coming Fall 2024 is the Investigative Journalism Class with Nikole Hannah-Jones at SSU. This class is open for all Mass Communications majors and minors who are juniors and seniors. Since this is a lifetime opportunity, sophomores will be accepted on a case-by-case basis based on journalism writing knowledge. This course will also have a local professional journalist coach. This course is being sponsored by the Center of Journalism and Democracy at Howard University. Other participating universities include Morehouse College, Howard University, Texas Southern University, University of the District of Colombia, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, and North Carolina Central University.

Center for Journalism & Democracy Awards $22,000 to SSU Student Newsroom Savannah State University’s (SSU) Department of Journalism and Mass Communications received a $22,000 grant from the Center for Journalism & Democracy at Howard University via its Newsroom Innovation Challenge. SSU is one of only ten Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to receive funding from the center. The grant will support the Tiger’s Roar student-run newspaper and Tiger’s Roar-TV.
