Tiger's Roar places in Georgia Press Association collegiate competition

On Feb. 16, members of the student media outlet Tiger's Roar will learn how they placed among other student outlets in the state in the annual Better Newspaper Contest, sponsored by the Georgia Collegiate Press Association  annually. At the end of January, Tiger's Roar was notified that it placed in two categories- Layout and Design and News Story-  Investigative.   This is the fourth consecutive year the news outlet has placed in the Better Newspaper Contest.   In 2015, Tiger's Roar won second placed for "Most Improved Newspaper." In the judges' notes, the design and layout were listed as primary factors for winning the award.   "Focus on improving the use [of] artwork and better graphic design has paid off. The newspaper looks much better year over year." Asia Wilkerson, who graduated in December 2017, was layout editor from 2014 to December. Terry Manning receives Google developer scholarship

Terry   Manning,   technology   coordinator   for   the   Department of Journalism and Mass Communications, is a recent recipient of a Grow with Google Challenge Scholarship.     The scholarship is designed "to help people master the most important skills they need to be successful in the modern economy," according to a press release. The program   focuses   on   teaching  coding   skills   for   mobile   and web-based design.     "I'm really excited about this opportunity," Manning said.
